About The Birthday Effect
The birthday effect (sometimes called the birthday blues, especially when referring specifically to suicide) is a statistical phenomenon where an individual’s likelihood of death appears to increase on or close to their birthday. The birthday effect has been seen in studies of general populations in England and Wales,[1] Switzerland,[2][3] Ukraine,[4] and the United States,
Suggested mechanisms for the effect include alcohol consumption, psychological stress relating to the birthday, increased suicide risk, terminally ill patients attempting to hold on until their birthday, an increased mortality salience, or a physiological cycle that causes the body to weaken annually.

The M62 Massacre
2/4/1974- M62 Massacre
-On this day in 1974 occurred the M62 Coach Bombing on the M62 Motorway in Northern England when a 25 pound bomb was hidden inside a success in the luggage locker of a coach
carrying off duty British Armed Forces personnel and their family members exploded. The bomb was planted by the Provisional Irish Republican Army, killing 12 people consisting of 9 soldiers, and 3 civilians, while injuring 38 others aboard the vehicle.
-10 days after, Judith Ward was arrested for the M62 Massacre. She was incarcerated until her conviction was appealed in 1992, with the court hearing Government forensic scientists had deliberately withheld information from her defense counsel at her 1974 trial, which strongly indicated her innocence. She was released in May of 1992 , after serving 17 years of a life sentence when she was innocent the entire time… Making this the worst cases of wrongful imprisonment in British legal history.
The Kidnapping Of Patricia Hearst ( Patti Hearst )
2/4/ 1974- Kidnapping of Patrica Hearst
-On this day in 1974, 19 year old actress/ writer Patricia Hearst, granddaughter of a big publishing magnate, William Randolph Hearst, was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation army, or the ” SLA “
-Eventually she was found and arrested 19 months after her abduction, by which time she was a wanted fugitive for the serious crimes committed with members of the group. She was held in custody with much assumption that her families wealth would keep her out of prison.
-At the trial the prosecution suggested that she has intentionally joined the Symbionese Liberation Army….though she testified that she had been raped, threatened to be killed while she was captive.
-During this time of being kidnaped, she was forced to rob a bank, assist in making explosive devices that were unsuccessfully used in attempts to kill police officers in August 1975. She was forced to take on a new persona of a character called Tania.
-1976 she was convicted of the crime of Bank Robbery where she was to serve 35 years in prison which was reduced to 7. Eventually her sentence was pardoned by Bill Clinton.
The Motive For Patricia Hearst’s Kidnapping
Hearst’s kidnapping was partly opportunistic, as she happened to live near the SLA hideout. According to testimony at trial, the group’s main intention was to leverage the Hearst family’s political influence to free two SLA members who had been arrested for Marcus Foster‘s killing. Faced with the failure to free the imprisoned men, the SLA demanded that the captive’s family distribute $70 worth of food to every needy Californian – an operation that would cost an estimated $400 million. In response, Hearst’s father took out a loan and arranged the immediate donation of $2 million worth of food to the poor of the Bay Area, in an operation called “People in Need.” After the distribution descended into chaos, the SLA refused to release Hearst.
-The Patricia Hearst kidnapping is an episode in it self.

The Murder of Amadou Diallo
2/4/1999- The Wrongful Killing Murder of Amadou Diallo
The four officers, who were part of the now-defunct Street Crime Unit, were charged with second-degree murder and acquitted at trial in Albany, New York.[1]
In the early morning of February 4, 1999, Diallo was standing near his building after returning from a meal. At about 12:40 a.m., officers Edward McMellon, Sean Carroll, Kenneth Boss and Richard Murphy were looking for an alleged serial rapist in the Soundview section of the Bronx.
While driving down Wheeler Avenue, the police officer stopped his unidentified car and interrogated Diallo, who was in front of his apartment.
When they ordered Diallo to show his hands, he supposedly ran into the apartment and reached into his pocket to show his wallet.[5] Soon afterwards, assuming Diallo was drawing a gun, the four officers fired 41 shots[6] with semi-automatic pistols,[7][1][8] hitting Diallo 19 times, fatally wounding him. Eyewitness Sherrie Elliott stated that the police continued to shoot even though Diallo was already down.[5][9]
The investigation found no weapons on or near Diallo; what he had pulled out of his jacket was a wallet. The internal NYPD investigation ruled that the officers had acted within policy, based on what a reasonable police officer would have done in the same circumstances.
Nonetheless, the Diallo shooting led to a review of police training policy and of the use of full metal jacket (FMJ) bullets.
On March 25, 1999, a Bronx grand jury indicted the four officers on charges of second-degree murder and reckless endangerment.[10] On December 16, a court ordered a change of venue to Albany, New York because of pretrial publicity. On February 25, 2000, after three days of deliberation, a jury composed of four black and eight white jurors acquitted the officers of all charges.
This sparked a lot of outrage and is just one of many many incidents that are highlighted in the BLM movement.
